The iris will naturally adjust in size to shrink or expand the pupils in accordance to the amount of light surrounding oneself. However people can condition themselves to contract and expand the pupil of their own volition. Also, moving closer or further away from an object will effect it as well, as your pupils adjust to focus on objects away or close to your face.
