With dogs; Are corneal ulcers eye infections? What do they look like?

It's not necessarily an infection because it can be caused by any number of things. ';Corneal ulcer'; is a very broad term. It also can look like anything from redness and swelling around the eye to a blister on the actual eyeball. It's most common in breed that have protruding eyes such as boxers, boston terriers, etc. It's relatively easy to treat and usually not serious if treated quickly and properly. Good Luck!

corneal ulcers are painful, cause blinking and or closing the eye entirely, and extra tear production. It looks like a white dot that grows in size over time and just needs a simple medication from your vet to treat it. It usually occurs from bumping their eye on something, or cat scratch. It gets worse with days so dont wait for treatment. With dogs; Are corneal ulcers eye infections? What do they look like?
Sometime the whole cornea will look cloudy /bluish, and you'll see a red spot, a little hole in it. It needs antibiotics , in the eye, and maybe oral too. That can be caused by a variety of bacterias, or viruses like adnovirus or herpes virus.

Below is a link that will show you what they look like. It may turn your stomach.
